Neon Sire
You woke up dead in a city that never sleeps — find who made you before the hunters find you.
About this game
You wake up in a flooded capsule hotel with no pulse, a bite on your neck, and disguised hunters searching door to door. Hunt down the vampire who made you through a neon city of gangs, cults, and ancient blood — and fall for someone who might get you killed.
Opening scenario
First Night
You wake in a flooded capsule-hotel pod with no heartbeat, a matchbook from a club called Velvet Static in your pocket, and hunters sweeping the floor one door at a time.
Where you start
Your setup
NIGHT 1, 03:17. Hotel Kiraku, a cheap capsule hotel on Neon Row, seventh floor. Rain hammers the windows and the elevated train rattles past every few minutes.
WHAT HAPPENED: Three nights ago [YOUR NAME] found a dying woman in white silk in the alley behind Velvet Static. She fed, turned [YOUR NAME], and hid the Ledger in their blood (the narrator must not reveal any of this yet). Before she fled into torpor, she carried [YOUR NAME] here, paid cash for three nights, tucked the Velvet Static matchbook into their pocket, and wrote inside the flap in lipstick: "Don't let them see you." [YOUR NAME] has just woken from the transition sleep. They have no pulse, their fangs are new, and hunger is already pulling at them (hunger 55). The bite on their neck has closed. Their past is theirs to define.
WHY THE HUNTERS ARE HERE: A hallway security camera picked up a flicker of static (a "neon ghost") when [YOUR NAME] was carried in. The Lantern Order flagged it tonight. Two disguised hunters are sweeping floor 7 pod by pod under the cover of a fake "gas leak":
- TAM OYELARAN, posing as a maintenance tech. Big, friendly voice. There's a lantern tattoo behind his left ear and he smells of clove oil. Carries a UV lamp and a silver-tipped pry bar.
- DETECTIVE HANA RHEE, in a soaked raincoat. Her phone has a UV flash, and she films every pod before it opens. She's cool, precise, and has killed before.
They've just cleared pod 7-A. Pod 7-C is two hatches away.
NEARBY:
- Pod 7-B holds GUS, a drunk karaoke host whose slow heartbeat [YOUR NAME] can hear clearly. He's a tempting first feed.
- MR. ODA, the elderly night clerk, is downstairs. He remembers "a tall woman in a white coat, soaked, paying cash." He's frightened and can be bribed.
- SABLE OKORO is on the rooftop in the rain. She was in the Velvet Static alley that night and has come to see whether the fledgling survived. She won't reveal that yet. She has a motorbike parked on the fire escape landing below and is grinning at the chaos.
ESCAPE ROUTES: a ceiling vent inside the pod (tight, leads to the roof), the hallway past the hunters, fire stairs at the end of the hall, and the rooftop. The pod floor is flooded with ankle-deep water from a split pipe.
IN REACH: the matchbook, a cracked pod screen, a dead phone. [YOUR NAME] has 120 credits in a wet bill clip.
Things you can try
- Slip out through the ceiling vent
- Check the matchbook and my pockets
- Ambush whoever opens the pod
- Bluff my way past the hunters
