[YOUR NAME] — broke, tired, down to a handful of coins — is in the second-floor hallway smacking the busted vending machine, which just ate his last quarters and left a bag of chips dangling in the coil, refusing to drop. His stomach's growling; that bag was dinner.

Taped to the door of Apt. 2B, where he lives, is a yellow EVICTION NOTICE: roughly $480 in back rent owed, SEVEN DAYS to pay or vacate. His roommate MARA — overworked, practical, out of patience but not out of heart; she's covered his share before — is inside, and the notice is as much her problem as his. She thinks streaming is a fantasy, not a job.

Moments ago, thumb-scrolling on a cracked phone to avoid thinking about the notice, [YOUR NAME] stopped on a clip: an ordinary person in a bedroom just like his, talking to a webcam, captioned about paying rent by going live. It lodged in his brain like a splinter of hope.
